Heritage Windows & Vacuum Glazing

Traditional timber windows and slim vacuum glazing are an excellent combination for improving comfort while preserving period character. Our 10.4 mm toughened vacuum glass option uses two 5 mm panes separated by a 0.4 mm vacuum gap, offering an insulating solution where a conventional gas-filled double-glazed unit may be too thick for an existing glazing rebate.

Where the original timber frame and sash are sound and suitable, a carefully specified glazing upgrade may allow them to be retained. Rebate dimensions, glass weight, edge cover, seals and draught-proofing must be checked; some windows need joinery adjustments or new sashes. Bespoke timber replacement windows are also available, made from your detailed drawings or original samples, with heritage consent application support.

Vacuum glazing delivers high insulation performance in a slim profile. Performance varies by product: compare the specified glass U-value (Ug) and complete-window U-value (Uw), rather than the number of panes alone. The final result depends on the frame, seals and installation as well as the glass.
