Traditional character, made to your opening
Trent Glass supplies bespoke timber windows for older homes and renovation projects. Traditional sash proportions, glazing-bar layouts and painted or natural timber finishes can be tailored to the opening and the character of the property. Discuss white, heritage green or other specified finishes, as well as narrow and non-standard sizes.
Traditional timber windows and slim vacuum glazing
Traditional timber windows and vacuum glazing are an excellent pairing when you want to improve insulation without losing the original window character. Our 10.4 mm toughened vacuum glass option is approximately 10 mm thick. Conventional gas-filled double-glazed units can be too thick for shallow historic glazing rebates, while a slim vacuum unit may offer a practical upgrade.
It may be possible to retain suitable existing window frames and sashes, subject to their condition, rebate depth, glass weight and the agreed heritage design. Some installations require joinery adjustments, new beads, draught-proofing or rebalanced sash weights. We manufacture from your supplied drawings or samples and do not normally provide on-site measurement.
High-performance vacuum glass can offer strong thermal insulation without the bulk of conventional multi-pane glazing. The selected unit’s declared Ug value and the complete window’s Uw value should be used to assess performance against a particular double- or triple-glazed window; glass thickness alone does not establish that comparison.
Choose the glazing
Discuss slim vacuum-insulated glazing where improved insulation and a slender glazing profile are priorities. Conventional double glazing, clear glass and decorative privacy glass can also be considered. The frame rebates, sash weight, opening hardware and glass construction are designed together; not every decorative finish can be combined with every vacuum unit.

- Reeded and fine-reeded glass for a linear decorative effect.
- Floral, water-ripple, stippled, square-grid and fine-textured patterned glass.
- Tinted glass options, with colour and light transmission confirmed from samples.
Patterns shown are illustrative. Confirm the exact texture, privacy level, colour and availability from a physical sample before ordering.
Toughened or laminated safety constructions can be specified where suitable for the selected glass and application. Final thicknesses, sizes and performance are confirmed in the project quotation.

We have experience of heritage consent applications and can help you apply for Listed Building Consent for replacement windows. We can assist with the proposed window specifications and supporting design details for consideration by your local planning authority and conservation officer.
Our bespoke timber windows can be made to faithfully reproduce the original window, matching its appearance and construction details: overall proportions, frame and sash profiles, glazing-bar layout, mouldings, joinery details and opening arrangement. We work from the existing window, measured details and agreed drawings to reproduce its original character as closely as possible.
Where an exact reproduction is required, the original details and any proposed glazing upgrade are agreed before manufacture. Final specifications are subject to the approved design and technical feasibility; the local planning authority determines whether consent is granted.
Made from your original window or detailed drawings
If you can send us the complete original window, or a relevant section or component, we can use it as a physical reference to reproduce the profiles, mouldings and construction details. Please contact us to agree suitable samples and delivery arrangements before sending anything. Where only part of the window is supplied, we will also need dimensions or drawings for the parts that the sample does not show.
If you cannot provide an original window or sample, you will need to supply detailed, dimensioned drawings. These should show the overall sizes, frame and sash sections, glazing bars, mouldings, opening arrangement and any relevant hardware details. Photographs are useful supporting references but do not replace detailed drawings or samples.
We do not normally provide on-site measuring or survey visits. Our service is manufacture to the drawings and/or samples you supply. Please arrange accurate measurements and check the final dimensions and details before approving manufacture.
