Vacuum Insulated Glass Units

Vacuum Insulated Glass Units

8.4 mm vacuum-sealed glazing with a U-value of 0.5 W/m²K — outperforms triple glazing in less than a third of the thickness. Ideal for high-performance modern builds, deep retrofits, and any project where thermal performance matters and frame depth is limited.

Trent Glass Vacuum Insulated Glass Units consist of two glass plies separated by a sub-millimetre vacuum cavity with a precision array of micro-pillar spacers. The vacuum eliminates conduction and convection through the cavity entirely — the only remaining heat path is radiation, which is suppressed by a low-emissivity coating. The result is a glazing unit that performs better than triple glazing in 8.4 mm of total thickness.

Key Features

  • U-value: 0.5 W/m²K — outperforms triple glazing
  • Total thickness: just 8.4 mm (fits in single-glazing rebates)
  • Weight: 50–60% lighter than equivalent triple glazing units
  • Pillar array: hexagonal-pitch micropillars between the two plies, all but invisible at viewing distance
  • Edge seal: laser-welded glass-to-glass hermetic seal — guaranteed 25+ year vacuum life
  • Compatible with toughened, laminated, low-iron or coloured glass plies

Ideal Applications

  • Passivhaus and EnerPHit-grade new builds
  • Deep retrofit projects targeting EPC A or B
  • Heritage and conservation refits where single-glazing rebates limit replacement thickness
  • Listed buildings (in conjunction with the Slim Profile variant)
  • High-rise residential — weight saving reduces structural and lifting cost
  • Architectural feature glazing where slim sightlines matter
  • Cold-climate exports (Scandinavia, Scotland, alpine regions)
  • Spaces where condensation control is critical (museums, archives, galleries)
